Enter your room size and tile size — get the area, the number of tiles and the boxes to order, with wastage already counted. No sign-up, nothing to download.

By BGH Bath Gallery & Tiles Store by Bharat Glass House, Amrik Singh Road, Bathinda

Wastage, cutting loss and breakage allowance are already built into this estimate (10% for 400×400 to 600×1200 mm, 15% for larger formats) — you don't need to add extra.

This is a rough box count only. Please confirm final quantities with our sales staff before buying — actual per-box coverage varies by brand and batch.

How the calculation works

Room area = length × width. Each tile covers its own area (a 600 × 600 mm tile covers 0.36 m², about 3.88 sq ft). Divide room area by tile area, add wastage, and round up to whole boxes. The calculator does exactly this — and rounds up, because tile shops sell full boxes.

Why wastage is built into this calculator

Every room needs cut tiles at the edges, some tiles break in transit or cutting, and a few spares should sit in storage for future repairs — a discontinued design is nearly impossible to match years later. This calculator adds that allowance automatically based on the tile size you pick: 10% for 400×400 mm, 500×500 mm, 600×600 mm and 600×1200 mm tiles, and 15% for larger formats (800×1600 mm, 1200×1800 mm, 1200×2400 mm) which need more cutting and carry higher breakage risk in handling.

Order everything in one batch

Tiles made in different production batches can vary slightly in shade and size. Order the full quantity — including wastage — in one go, and check that every box carries the same batch and shade number. This is the single most common tile-buying mistake we see, and the easiest to avoid.

Frequently asked questions

How much extra should I buy for tile wastage?

This calculator already builds in wastage — 10% for 400×400 mm, 500×500 mm, 600×600 mm and 600×1200 mm tiles, and 15% for larger formats (800×1600 mm, 1200×1800 mm, 1200×2400 mm) which need more cutting and carry higher breakage risk. You don't need to add anything extra on top.

How many tiles come in one box?

It varies by tile size, brand and even production run — the count printed on the carton is the only figure to rely on. This calculator converts your room size straight into a rough number of boxes so you don't have to work it out yourself, but always confirm the exact box coverage with our sales staff before ordering.

Why should all tiles be from the same batch?

Tiles from different production batches can differ slightly in shade and size — visible only after laying, when it's too late. Order the full quantity including wastage in one go, and check that every box shows the same batch/shade number before it leaves the shop.

Does this calculator work for wall tiles too?

Yes — measure the wall's width as 'length' and its height as 'width', and calculate each wall separately, subtracting large openings like doors and windows. For bathrooms, calculate floor and each tiled wall individually, then add the areas together.
